On 22–23 September this year, the World Data Centre for Microorganisms 2026 International Annual Conference (WDCM-2026) was held in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China. The conference was organized by the World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM).
A group of scientists from the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan actively participated in this prestigious international conference and presented their research findings. In particular, scientific presentations were delivered by Academician K. Davranov, Doctor of Biological Sciences I.M. Khalilov, Candidate of Biological Sciences R.N. Juraeva, DSc N.A. Rustamova, PhD B.I. Turaeva, and doctoral researcher A. Umrizakov.
The conference brought together leading scientists, researchers, and specialists working in the fields of microbial culture collections, bioinformatics, data science, and related disciplines. The event provided a platform for discussing advanced approaches to the storage, digitization, analysis, and international exchange of microbial data.
The major scientific topics addressed during the conference included:
- application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in microbiology;
- analysis and exchange of digital sequencing data;
- modern biobanks and management of microbial culture collections;
- advanced approaches to microbial identification;
- sequencing technologies and bioinformatics analysis;
- effective management and integration of biological data;
- capacity building in microbiological research and technology;
- international cooperation among global biobanks and microbial culture collections.
The participation of scientists from the Institute of Microbiology in this international conference represents an important step toward advancing microbial culture collections in Uzbekistan, implementing modern genomic and bioinformatics technologies, and strengthening international scientific cooperation.
Furthermore, the scientific discussions and exchange of expertise during the conference provided new opportunities for the Institute’s specialists to further develop the digitization of microbial data, application of advanced bioinformatics approaches, and collaboration with international biological data repositories.
