About the Laboratory

logotip

The scientific laboratory's objectives are to organize and conduct a modern taxonomic inventory and study of the components of Uzbekistan's microbial biodiversity; analyze natural and anthropogenic impacts on ecosystem quality; systematically study microbial biodiversity as a comprehensive indicator of the state of natural environments; and create a new information platform for the conservation and sustainable use of microorganisms, expanding and improving the operating conditions of the existing collection of industrially important crops. The laboratory conducts research to identify microorganisms with high biotechnological potential for the development of environmentally friendly biological products for agricultural and environmental purposes. Microbiological monitoring of environmental objects (unpolluted and under anthropogenic and technogenic influence of soils, waters, sludge, etc.) is also conducted. In addition, the laboratory studies the processes of microbial synthesis of nanoparticles as the basis for technologies for the production of new nanomaterials.

The laboratory's main research areas:

Inventorying and studying microbial diversity, which is one of the most important tasks in the study and conservation of biodiversity, and organizing a long-term microflora monitoring system;

Continuously expanding the collection with biotechnologically valuable microbial strains and developing new biotechnologies for practical sectors of the national economy.

Compiling national and regional biodiversity reports;

Developing and implementing innovative ideas in national economic practice.

Providing microbiological monitoring services for environmental objects (unpolluted and under anthropogenic and technogenic influence of soils, waters, and sludge).

Key scientific achievements:

Microorganisms producing silver and copper nanoparticles were obtained, and conditions for maximizing nanoparticle yield were developed.

The variability and stability of microorganisms in the collection fund during storage were studied.

Nodule bacteria of vegetable soybeans were obtained, stimulating plant growth and development.

Active pesticide degraders were obtained, and a product for the degradation of chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin was developed based on them.

A biotechnology for producing biofuels from natural renewable resources (plant biomass residues, water-borne waste, and sewage sludge) was developed.
