The Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan announces a call for applications for doctoral studies (DSc), basic doctoral studies (PhD), and research internships for the year 2026
Organized by the decision of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1977 as part of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The main directions of scientific research are bioecology, systematics, physiology, cytology, biochemistry, genetics and genetic engineering of bacteria and fungi, regulation of metabolic processes in microbial cells, development of microbial biotechnologies for the national economy and environmental protection.

On September 16, 2025, the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a creative contest and an open master class called “Agar Art” to spark young people’s interest in science and familiarize them with scientific innovations and the work of researchers.
During the event, participants, with the support of scientific staff, created artistic compositions on Petri dishes using safe, non-pathogenic microorganisms and presented their works for the competition.

This video showcases the “Agar Art” contest, held on 16 September 2025 at the Institute of Microbiology, where young participants, with the support of scientific staff, created artistic compositions on Petri dishes.
On July 15, 2025, an open dialogue was held at the "Wyndham Tashkent" hotel in Tashkent at the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, with the participation of young scientists and entrepreneurs. The main goal of the event was to discuss the commercialization of scientific developments, the implementation of innovative ideas into production, the strengthening of cooperation with business entities, and the attraction of investments.

About Us
Currently, the main objectives of the institute are:
- study of the diversity of the world of microorganisms;
- ecology, systematics, biology, physiology, cytology and genetics of bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi;
- creation of a regional collection and maintenance of practically valuable cultures of microorganisms, allowing the development of environmentally friendly biotechnologies;
- study of the physiology and biochemistry of microorganisms, their biosynthesis of enzymes, proteins, vitamins, antibiotics and the development on their basis of new technologies for obtaining physiologically active substances and strains - superproducers;
- addressing issues related to environmental protection by studying the microbial decomposition of cyanide and other pesticides;
